Smarter Measurement and Better Automation with the Kitagawa MET Inspection System

Reliable dimensional inspection is an essential part of automated manufacturing. The Kitagawa MET Length Measurement Judgement System makes it possible to inspect workpiece dimensions during handling and conveyance.
In combination with a suitable measuring gripper, MET determines workpiece dimensions and simultaneously assesses whether they comply with the defined tolerances. Handling and quality inspection are therefore combined within a single operation. This supports cost-effective factory automation and can reduce the need for separate inspection stations and manual measurement processes.
Up to five measuring positions with one system
Up to five measuring positions can be defined for each workpiece. This makes the MET system suitable for components requiring several dimensions to be inspected within a single automated process.
The software also takes the geometry of the gripper jaws into account when calculating the actual workpiece dimensions. The values detected by the measuring gripper are automatically converted into the corresponding workpiece dimensions.
Five-level measurement judgement
Measurement results are classified into five judgement levels. This provides more information than a simple pass-or-fail result. It also makes it possible to identify gradual changes and trends within the manufacturing process.
These trends may indicate factors such as progressive tool wear or dimensional variation caused by changing temperatures. Early detection supports consistent product quality and helps prevent rejects or parts that require costly rework.
Simple setup without specialist programming knowledge
No advanced programming knowledge is required to configure the inspection system. Settings are entered using a dedicated application on a standard personal computer.
The intuitive interface simplifies commissioning and reduces reliance on PLC specialists. This can lower both the initial implementation effort and the associated costs.
The dedicated software is compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Measurement data storage and output
Measurement data can be saved and exported, making historical results readily available for evaluation, process analysis and quality documentation.
Systematic recording of measurement values supports product traceability and provides a reliable data basis for monitoring and continuously improving the manufacturing process.
