ABB robots enable six-fold increase in throughput for energy storage manufacturer.
ABB Robotics and JOT Automation have jointly delivered a future-proof production solution for ABB Electronification in manufacturing of battery energy storage system while achieving a six-fold increase in throughput.
The fully automated production and testing line is expected to achieve a further doubling of throughput in the future.
The challenge
Battery pack production is a complex, multi-step process involving multiple different operations – from sorting and assembly to laser welding and electrical testing. Any automated solution must therefore be extremely flexible while maximizing throughput, maintaining high quality, and ensuring compliance.
The solution
System integrator JOT Automation based its solution on a six-axis ABB IRB 4600 industrial robot on the client’s battery pack assembly and module testing line, which offers flexibility coupled with reliability and precision.
