In haute horlogerie, nuances determine how the quality of surfaces is perceived. For decorations to appear as if they came from a watchmaking workshop, subtle differences in the pressure and duration of the tool's contact with the workpiece are essential—differences that, until now, could only be achieved through highly precise handcraftsmanship.

A machine can operate perfectly, but the result cannot offer the individual variations expected from a watchmaking manufactory. The effect of technically impersonal perfection must be avoided at all costs when decorating high-quality watches. Conventional CNC systems have so far only been able to produce these “soulless” decorations.
