A look back at the history of SIAMS (35 years old last year) and a look ahead to the future!



How Moutier became a world showcase for microtechnology.
In 1988, a group of local industrialists, with the support of the Bernese Jura Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bernese Economic Development Agency, set up a local event (in a garage) to enable industrialists to get to know each other better and, why not, work together (yes, already!).

Around ten exhibitors took an active part and discovered that they had things in common. A representative of the OFIAMT (Office fédéral de l'Industrie des Arts et Métiers et du Travail (ex SECO), the Federal Office for Industry, Arts and Crafts and Labour) marked the event with his presence and already showed the importance of the forthcoming event. The visitors were delighted. The event was a great success, and the idea of creating a ‘real’ industrial exhibition in Moutier was launched.

The aim of this event, which must be unique, is to showcase the region's industries to the various economic players (national and international) as well as to the general public, in order to promote the economic image and know-how of the Jura valleys (the Jura microtechnology arc).

35 years later, the mission continues.
