Polycrystalline CVD -Diamond Tools
Polycrystalline diamond CVD tools are the result of cutting-edge technology, growing diamond under vacuum, typically to make a “thick film” of 0.3 to 1.0 mm.
50 to 60% harder than PCD, in other words only laser machinable, this high-end polycrystalline diamond material still makes it possible to push back certain limits that PCD stumbles upon. Examples include high-performance machining in hard turning, or even hard milling, of sintered tungsten carbide, dry machining of aluminum (more diamond than PCD = an even smoother table and less gluing) , milling of sintered SIC (>10x the life of PCD), Etc.
A higher diamond concentration than PCD gives the material, and therefore the tool, a cooler cut, guaranteeing possibly higher cutting speeds. (And vacuum brazing at high temperatures, the only viable technical solution, is a guarantee of not losing the pellets… Vc from 600 to 900 meters in GFRP)
Please note: CVD can be up to 4 times more efficient than PCD!
