EMISSA PRESENTS THE PRECIMILL, A COMPACT AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE MACHINING CENTER
A major player in the field of high-precision machining, EMISSA SA will be exhibiting its latest machining center: the PreciMill 5X. Designed to meet the industry’s growing demands for precision, performance, and reliability, it concentrates cutting-edge technologies and is perfectly suited for advanced applications such as watchmaking, micromechanics, connectors, and medical technology.
With more than 80 years of expertise, EMISSA SA is based in Le Locle, at the heart of the true cradle of the Swiss watchmaking and micromechanics industry. For many years, EMISSA SA has specialized in the design and production of custom machining centers. Today, EMISSA SA is expanding its range by unveiling the PreciMill 5X exclusively, a compact, precise, and high-performance standard machining center. Designed with the same level of rigor and innovation as special machines, it guarantees optimal performance without compromising on technical requirements.
A compact and high-performance machining center
With a footprint of less than 2.25 m², the PreciMill 5X is one of the most compact machining centers in its category. It is equipped with advanced technologies to deliver very high production efficiency:
- An optimized mechanical structure with high static mass, providing a robust base for maximum precision, and a honeycomb cast-iron structure to minimize moving masses.
- A dynamic axis system equipped with linear motors and direct-drive torque motors. The axes are thermally regulated to minimize expansion and fitted with optical encoders, giving the PreciMill 5X outstanding accuracy and repeatability. Travels of 180 × 140 × 160 mm allow machining of mechanical parts up to 120 mm³.
- A tool magazine with a capacity of 100 positions and a dual-gripper tool changer, enabling tool-to-tool change times of less than 1.5 s and chip-to-chip times of less than 3 s. The tool library can optionally be managed using RFID technology.
- A high-frequency spindle fitted with an HSK-E25 tool holder, reaching speeds of up to 50,000 rpm. It is equipped with a rotary union for high-pressure through-tool coolant, optimizing drilling speed, machining quality, and tool life. It also integrates a spindle lock for turning tools and a thermal expansion sensor to ensure maximum precision.
- A simultaneous 4th and 5th axis (B and C axes) controlled by a Fanuc 31i-B5 CNC. The C axis is a turning axis reaching rotational speeds of up to 4,500 rpm and includes a rotary union for air blow-off during and after machining.
Thanks to its expertise in the design and manufacture of machining systems, EMISSA SA can offer clamping systems perfectly adapted to the geometry of the workpiece and the required machining operations, including solutions such as pallets, collets, vises, or retractable clamping systems. The PreciMill 5X can also be equipped with a robotic loading and unloading cell to achieve high production autonomy and reduce manufacturing costs.
Another key advantage of the PreciMill 5X is its excellent accessibility to the machining area, making the work of operators and setters more comfortable and efficient. Maintenance is also simplified and reduced thanks to state-of-the-art equipment and a limited number of wear parts. For example, it does not incorporate ball screws, whose maintenance can be demanding to ensure optimal performance.
Innovation for the machining of tomorrow
The PreciMill 5X also stands out for its innovative nature by anticipating the machining processes of tomorrow. It is designed to be compatible with supercritical CO₂ machining, a new cooling and lubrication process offering numerous advantages, particularly in terms of energy efficiency, tool life, and machining quality.
The PreciMill 5X was unveiled exclusively at EPHJ 2025 and will be presented at the SIAMS 2026 trade fair, from April 21 to 24, on EMISSA’s stand E7 in Hall 1.1. EMISSA SA’s experts will be on hand to present the machining center and discuss with you the possibilities it offers according to your specific needs.
