Blasogrind GTM 10: Blaser presents “All-rounder grinding oil” for tool grinding

The Research and Development Department at Blaser Swisslube spent months tinkering in the laboratory and in the in-house Technology Center looking for a grinding oil that would offer optimum cooling performance, maximum productivity and a wide range of applications for all common tool materials. The group has succeeded in making one grinding oil for all major cutting tool materials. The Swiss metalworking fluid experts present the market innovation Blasogrind GTM 10. The grinding oil is ideal for grinding and re-sharpening cutting tools and can be used on various materials, from carbide, high-speed steel (HSS) and steel to cermet.

Blasogrind GTM 10 is a grinding oil for all common tool materials with an impressively wide range of applications. This innovation is characterized by a performance-optimized formulation, which allows for excellent cooling characteristics, thanks to the very fast air discharge and good wetting and rinsing behavior. Efficient cooling prevents temperature damage such as microcracks and grinding burn marks. In addition, the colorless and transparent oil ensures a clear view of the grinding process, minimal cleaning effort and a safe coating.

Versatility is what counts
“It was crucial for the members of the Research and Development Department to create the most versatile grinding oil possible, a universal product that could be used for different materials such as carbide, HSS, steel and cermet,” explains Rico Pollak, Business Development Manager Grinding at Blaser Swisslube. “Blasogrind GTM 10 is ideal for tool grinding and sharpening businesses. Many of these enterprises do not specialize in one material, but instead offer tools made of a variety of different materials. A versatile grinding oil makes such manufacturers more efficient and productive.”

Blasogrind GTM 10 enables high feed rates, long dressing intervals and excellent surface quality. The high removal rate, especially when grinding grooves, ensures reduced cycle times. The special formulation and the product’s inhibiting properties prevent cobalt leaching. When grinding HSS, the grinding burn limit has been extended, increasing overall productivity. In addition, there is only minimal burr formation. Blasogrind GTM 10 can be used in individually filled machines as well as central systems which are characterized by good machine and polymer compatibility and filterability. Because the product is odorless, a pleasant working environment is assured.

Successful tests at Fraisa SA
The Blasogrind GTM 10 was put through its paces in a test phase at renowned Swiss tool manufacturer, Fraisa SA in Bellach, in the canton of Solothurn. Grinding performance on carbide was tested on a grinding machine provided specifically for this purpose. “The tools produced were examined for microcracks and the coating adhesion was tested under real conditions,” explains Rico Pollak. The test phase was extremely successful. From the machine operator to the head of production, the people at Fraisa were impressed with Blasogrind GTM 10 and happy with their long-term partnership with Blaser Swisslube. Above all, the odorless nature, increased productivity and improved surface quality were emphasized. Rico Pollak explains: “Especially for tool manufacturers who use a variety of materials in their products, Blasogrind GTM 10 becomes a Liquid Tool that increases overall efficiency and profitability over the long term.”
