Increased tool life when machining a lead-free brass connector part.

Today’s brass alloys are increasingly being machined in lead-free versions.
However, machining is considerably more difficult compared to conventional brass. In particular, it is very important to control chip breaking in order to ensure reliable production. In addition, the occurrence of built-up edges must be prevented so that a high surface quality can be guaranteed throughout the entire service life of the tool.

Solution
The new 060RX insert is used as a universal turning and grooving insert. The geometry has an optimized chip breaker in both axial directions. The various dimensions, angles and edge rounding have been extensively tested in lead-free brass to find the ideal geometry for this application. Finally, a coating of the latest generation is used, which is also very smooth and reliably prevents possible built-up edges. According to the customer, the tool life with the Bimu insert is now even longer than before in conventional brass.
