Sandblasting and bead-blasting for the watchmaking industry
Sandblasting is a surface treatment technique that involves projecting abrasive particles onto a surface to clean, polish or texture it.
In the watchmaking industry, sandblasting is used for a number of applications:
Finishing watch cases. Sandblasting is used to give a matte or satin finish to stainless steel or titanium watch cases. This finish is highly appreciated for its elegant, scratch-resistant appearance.
Surface preparation before treatment. Sandblasting is used to prepare the surfaces of watch parts for further treatment, such as electroplating or plating. Sandblasting cleans the surface and roughens it for better adhesion of the subsequent treatment.
Creating decorative patterns. Sandblasting can be used to create decorative patterns on watch cases or dials. Patterns can be created using stencils or by sandblasting the surface freely to create unique designs.
